You Can Definitely Build A Gazebo, If You Are So Inclined
Can you be described as a handy person? Then you are a lucky person, too! You can build your own gazebo as easy as 1-2-3. You will be stunned if you would see what the market has to offer you as guidance, help and material if you are willing to try your hand at this project.
What You Will Need When You Build Your Gazebo
As soon as you make the decision, you will first need to draw up the plans for the gazebo. Look at all possible sources, such as local library (here you might get the plans for free), book shops and the Internet. You can also get excellent blueprints for as little as $10 (up to $200-300). Some internet sites also offer plans for free.
First of all, choose the type of wood and note that you will also need some tools. Often the basic tools would serve the purpose very well – grab a screw gun and a level and get ready to build a lovely gazebo! You will also need to use the compound and slider miter saw for the shaping of these different pieces of the wood.
You will have to start with the flooring – what type of flooring you want your gazebo to have in the first place. Usually people erect the pillars (walls) of the gazebo onto a ready-made wooden floor. There are kits however, which have an already build-in floor. When this is so, it will be required for you to pour one concrete pier for each post to have it done.
Before you use the concrete, you should ensure that there are no underground cables that you might accidentally cut when you dig out the depth for the piers. This information would be available with the local building department. There is another thing that you will need to do before you go for the building of the gazebo as a permanent structure– ensure that you are aware of the projected cost and in how many days you are expected to finish it.
You can use a good variety of materials, like vinyl, canvas, wood, metal and even plastic to build the gazebo. The most common wood varieties used for the purpose are, red wood, pine and cedar – all of which are excellent to work with. You may like to note the cedar is the oldest variety and hence it will be harder and most expensive as well. Pine on the other hand is the best choice for the beginner, because they can be easily manipulated and shaped. The disadvantage is that the pine built gazebo will decompose much faster than any other wood.
